I joined the Warriors three years ago. I was never into football like my family but wanted to meet new people and try a team sport. I had only participated in non team sports previously.
I was only out a year or so and had no LGBT friends. I had heard about the Warriors and their inclusivity. I am super shy. I went alone to the open day. I was extremely nervous and contemplated in the car park turning around. That would have been the worst mistake I could have made. I had never watched or played rugby and quickly was given the opportunity to learn all that was needed to get me on the pitch. I played in all the back positions in my first year until the then coach picked me out as a scrum half.In the second year I was the main scrum half and played most matches.
I always taught other teams may see us as a gay team and we may be mocked but the respect I have seen from community rugby teams has shown me how much we have moved on.I have now become a pavilion member due to work but still attend all matches and the social aspects of the team is incredible. I have met so many amazing people and friends for life. It was one of the best decisions I have made joining the Warriors.
